    Look at the following sentences :

    1. What is your name?
    2. I am going to school.
    3. I am a boy.
    4. Wow!

    All the above symbols like '?', (.), and '!' are called punctuation marks. Punctuation refers to a set of symbols which are used in writing. It enhances clarity and meaning in our writing.

    Why Do We Use Punctuation Marks?

    → We use punctuation marks to make our writing clear and meaningful. 
    → Punctuation marks allow readers to understand the writing easily.
    → With the help of punctuation marks, readers can easily understand whether a sentence is a question, statement or an emotion.

    Types of Punctuation and its Uses

    1. Full Stop (.)

    We use 'full stop (.)' at the end of a sentence. It indicates that the sentence has ended.

    For example, Anya is playing with her dog.

    We use 'question mark (?)' at the end of a sentence which indicates a question.

    3. Exclamation Mark (!) 

    When a sentence conveys strong emotions or excitement we use 'exclamation mark (!)'.

    For example, What! That is incredible!

    Common Mistakes With Punctuation Mark

    Students often forget to use punctuation marks whenever it is required. For example 'I am going to the park' is wrong because there is no punctuation mark. Therefore, the correct sentence is 'I am going to the park.'
