It is high time for class 6 students to go internationally with the CREST English Olympiad Exams. This English test evaluates advanced language abilities, grammar mastery, creative expression, and many more.
CREST Olympiads organizes English Olympiad every year. Only the online English Olympiad exam is organized for grade 6. The exam aims to boost the confidence of students, along with making them more efficient in English language skills. Students get tested on vocabulary, grammar, spelling, etc.

a. Sign up through your school, or on your own if your school is not registered with CREST. Both routes lead to the same class 6 English Olympiad.
b. Boards and borders don't matter: the Class 6 paper is open to CBSE, ICSE, IB and State Board schools, and CREST draws entries from 60+ countries.
c. Nobody may sit with you, because this exam is a solo one, done at home in front of a running webcam. The FAQ lists what can get a student disqualified: someone sitting with you, your face not fully visible, someone else using your test, or a calculator, mobile or other device during the exam.
d. What you need: a laptop, desktop or tablet whose screen measures more than 11.5 inches, running Windows 8 or above, or a Mac or an iPad, plus a stable internet connection and the latest Google Chrome (Edge or Firefox also work; Safari doesn't). Phones are ruled out.
e. The Class 6 English Olympiad is a two-level exam. Get into the top 55.56% of Level 1 scores and you are in Level 2. If your school has more than 25 students in Class 6 and you registered through it, finishing among its top 3 also earns a place.
1. Reading real formats. Class 6 reading questions use brochures, itineraries, diary entries, posters and formal and informal letters. Knowing how each one is built helps with school composition too.
2. Agreeing, refusing and apologising politely. The Spoken and Written Expressions topic for Class 6 covers agreement and disagreement, requests, refusals and apologies, all of it English you use every day.
3. Thinking beyond recall. One Class 6 review says the exams engaged higher order thinking skills and ran on a systematic schedule, and mentions an International Rank won in English.
4. A good first online exam. Another Class 6 testimonial comes from someone sitting an online Olympiad for the first time, who felt their problem-solving and analytical thinking improve and wanted to aim higher.

Use the latest version of Google Chrome (Edge or Firefox also work); the exam cannot be taken on the Safari browser. The exam is monitored through a webcam.
Class 6 changes the reading material more than the grammar. Compared with Class 5, Information Retrieval now works with brochures, formal and informal letters, itineraries, short narratives, diary entries and poster making. What Class 5 called Active-Passive Voice and Reported Speech now goes by Voices and Narration, Jumbled Words comes back, and Spoken and Written Expressions returns as a topic of its own. Homonyms and Homophones drop out this year.
Twenty topics fill Section 1 of the class 6 English Olympiad syllabus, and here they are: Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs, Adverbs, Adjectives, Articles, Prepositions, Punctuation, Jumbled Words, Conjunctions, Tenses, Voices, Narration, Spellings, Collocations, Phrasal Verbs, Idioms, Words (Related to Everyday Problems, Relationships, Health and Medicine, Travel etc.), Information Retrieval from Various Text and Image (Brochures, Formal and Informal letters, Itinerary, Short Narratives, Time-tables, News Stories, Diary Entry, Poster Making, Messages etc.), Spoken and Written Expressions (Agreement and Disagreement, Requests, Refusals, Apologies, etc.).
Nothing new is added for the Achievers Section; its ten Higher Order Thinking Questions test the same twenty topics with more thinking involved.
You have 60 minutes for 50 questions worth 60 marks, split into 40 questions of 1 mark and 10 Achievers questions of 2 marks. Level 2 is the same, and wrong answers are not penalised.

Give yourself about eight weeks. Plan four or five sessions a week of 40 minutes each, and keep one day for revision.
Begin with reading formats, since Class 6 leans on them. Collect a travel brochure, a train itinerary and a notice from school, and practise pulling facts out of each in under two minutes. Write one formal and one informal letter on the same topic and compare them. Keep a diary for a week. For grammar, convert five sentences a day between active and passive voice and between direct and indirect narration. Learn phrasal verbs and idioms in small groups by theme, for example health or travel.
With the formats practised, attempt the class 6 English Olympiad sample papers, and after them last year's paper. Note every wrong answer by topic, and settle spelling doubts in the Oxford Learner's Dictionary, which CREST uses as its reference.
On timing, you have 72 seconds for each of the 50 questions in the hour. Practise full papers in one sitting, and take the free trial test alone, as you will on the day.
One CREST English Olympiad rank holder, International Rank 2 in Class 6, learned each topic properly when school covered it, did all the practice questions, rested one unit of time for every three spent studying, and did not cram. The same rank holder has a published collection of short stories, written before fifth grade (both facts are on the Hall of Fame profile). For practice questions, use the CREST English workbook, and the official preparation partner, Olympiad Success, runs an Olympiad trainer site with extra material.
