e. Registration costs INR 275 in India or USD 15 abroad, and it includes two optional online practice tests. Before paying, the free trial test lets your child try the platform.
1. Fixing things calmly. Basics of Troubleshooting enters the syllabus in Class 4: identify the problem, then restart and refresh. That habit of stopping to think before panicking is useful far beyond computers.
2. A first presentation. MS PowerPoint gets a unit of its own, with slides, themes, text boxes, images and shapes, so children can make a short slideshow for a school project.
3. Knowing your files. File types and extensions (.txt, .docx, .pdf, .jpg, .png, .mp3, .mp4, .pptx), the Recycle Bin and File Explorer help a child find, restore and organise their own work.
4. Room to explore. In a published Class 4 review, CREST comes across as a place where children learn, practise and explore what they know, picking up creative thinking along the way.

Six weeks is a sensible run-up for Class 4. Give each unit a few days, and keep a computer open during every session.
Start with the Windows settings, since they are easy to practise: change the date and time, the language and the display, create a desktop shortcut, explore the context menu and the taskbar settings, and open the RUN dialog box. Next, do a short PowerPoint: add three slides, apply a theme, insert a text box, an image and a shape, and resize them. In Word, try Find & Replace, line spacing, a bulleted list, an image and a hyperlink.
For files, ask your child to sort a few files by extension, delete one, restore it from the Recycle Bin, then delete it permanently. In Paint, use the Colour Picker, Remove Background and the selection tools, switch on the ruler and gridlines, and hold Shift while drawing shapes and lines.
One CREST rank holder, International Rank 1 in the Class 4 Cyber Olympiad in 2019-20, had a study method of learning material before school taught it and following the books with confidence (Hall of Fame profile). Reading a little ahead of the school computer period works well with this syllabus too.
Next come the class 4 Cyber Olympiad sample papers, done against the clock: each of the 35 questions gets roughly 1 minute 43 seconds of the hour. CREST's official preparation partner, Olympiad Success, also has an online test series for Olympiad practice, and a Class 4 Cyber workbook from CREST is available via Olympiad books.
