a. Any Class 3 student can register for the Maths Olympiad for Class 3, through school or on their own.
b. It doesn't matter which board your child studies under (CBSE, ICSE, IB, State Board or another) or which country you live in.
c. Your child takes the test alone at home, on a laptop, desktop or tablet with a webcam and a screen bigger than 11.5 inches: a Windows machine on Windows 8 or newer, a Mac or an iPad. Use an up-to-date Google Chrome (Edge or Firefox are fine too, Safari is not) and a stable internet connection. The webcam monitors the whole exam, so nobody should sit with them, and calculators and phones are not allowed.
d. Exam slots are flexible. After payment, log in, go to Book Slot/Take Exam, and pick a time at least 2 days before the exam.
e. The test for Class 3 is held in 2 levels. Those who qualify Level 1 are eligible for Level 2.
1. Fractions without fear. Class 3 is when fractions first appear in the CREST paper. Meeting them in puzzles and pictures makes a half or a quarter feel ordinary rather than scary.
2. Reading data. Data Handling questions ask a child to read a table or chart and answer from it, a skill they will use in Science and Social Studies too.
3. Practice that fits busy homes. One Class 3 review says the flexible slots suit working parents, who can personally watch their child take the computer-based practice and main exams. The same review also praises the question types, the exam format and how easy the platform is to use.
4. A different kind of question. Another Class 3 testimonial says the Olympiad helped the writer improve and felt very different from their books. That difference is the point: the topics are familiar, the thinking is new.

For Class 3, plan on five or six weeks of steady work, around 30 minutes a session. Start with the topics that are new this year.
Fractions first: fold paper into halves, thirds and quarters, then try questions that compare 1/2 and 1/4. Then 4-digit numbers: place value, expanded form, and the largest and smallest number you can make from four digits. For Data Handling, make a tally chart of the family's favourite fruits and answer questions from it. Keep a weekly round of measurement, time and money questions so they don't go rusty.
Use the Maths Olympiad questions for class 3 to see the style, then try the previous year paper. Before you plan the last fortnight, look at the marks distribution, which shows what each section is worth.
Timing: one hour, 35 questions, so a little over a minute and a half per question (about 103 seconds). Do the last two sample papers with a timer and no help, the way the real exam will be. A run through the free practice test means the webcam setup holds no surprises on the day.
Extra questions are in the class 3 Maths Olympiad books, the CREST workbook among them. Want a teacher? Olympiad Success, CREST's official preparation partner, runs courses and test series; start at its Olympiad trainer page.
