Reasoning Olympiad for Class 6

Class 6 Reasoning Olympiad exam from CREST is an international-level exam that covers advanced logical thinking, data sufficiency, and critical analysis. The CREST Reasoning Olympiad (CRO) is designed for students who want to improve their Reasoning skills from an early age. As a child grows older, logical reasoning becomes a natural part of their life. Logical thinking skills assist people in many ways and are a must-learn for students. CRO exam is an international Reasoning Olympiad exam & it is conducted in online mode only.

a. If you are in Class 6, you can take the Reasoning Olympiad for class 6 from any board and from any country.

b. Enter through your school, or register yourself on the CREST website. Either way, you take the exam from home.

c. You sit the exam on your own with the webcam on. Keep your whole face in the frame and do not let anyone else access the test; using a mobile, a calculator or another device is grounds for disqualification.

d. Your setup: desktop, laptop or tablet (Windows 8 or above, a Mac or an iPad), a webcam, a display bigger than 11.5 inches and a stable internet connection, with the latest Google Chrome as the browser (Edge or Firefox also work; Safari does not). A phone cannot be used.

e. There is only one level. Your Level 1 paper is the final exam, and your rank and awards come from it.

f. Your slot should be booked from the dashboard no later than 2 days before the exam, and CREST sends reminder emails and SMSes 2 to 3 days ahead of it.

1. A much wider toolkit. Class 6 adds Blood Relations, Logical Venn Diagram, Mathematical Operations, Paper Folding and Paper Cutting, and Cubes and Dice, none of which appear in the earlier CRO classes.

2. Verbal and visual reasoning together. The list mixes letter, word and number puzzles with figure work such as Figure Matrix and Dot Situations, so you practise both kinds of thinking.

3. Growth you can notice. A Class 6 review says CREST Olympiads helped the writer grow and learn a lot.

4. How ranks are worked out. Final ranks are normalised across the different sessions and question papers, and ties are broken by time taken and then by date of birth.

Students who register separately from school & want to appear for the online Reasoning Olympiad exam for class 6 can follow these simple steps:

Note:

1. Reasoning Olympiad Individual registrations by students are accepted.

2. Students who have not done registration through school will have to take exams from home. The individual participating should have a webcam and a good internet facility. Use a laptop, desktop or tablet with a screen larger than 11.5 inches: a Windows computer or tablet running Windows 8 or above, a Mac, or an iPad. Phones cannot be used. Use the latest version of Google Chrome (Edge or Firefox also work); the exam cannot be taken on the Safari browser. The exam is monitored through a webcam.

Class 6 is where the CRO list is rebuilt. The Reasoning Olympiad syllabus for class 6 no longer lists Patterns, Geometrical Shapes and Solids, Possible Combinations or Puzzle Test. In their place comes a long run of topics never listed in Classes 1 to 5: Blood Relations, Logical Venn Diagram, Alpha Numeric Sequence Puzzle, Mathematical Operations, Analytical Reasoning, Figure Formation, Construction of Squares, Figure Matrix, Paper Folding and Paper Cutting, Cubes and Dice, and Dot Situations.

Some familiar names return in a new form. Series Completion, last listed in Class 2, comes back as Series Completion and Inserting the Missing Character. Grouping of Figures from Classes 1 and 2 returns as Grouping of Identical Figures. Alphabet Test and Logical Sequence of Words, a single topic in Classes 3 to 5, are now listed separately, and Ranking Test is not listed by that name. Analogy and Classification, Coding - Decoding, Direction Sense Test, Mirror Images and Water Images, and Embedded Figures carry on from Class 5.

As for the Achievers Section, its Higher Order Thinking Questions use the topics above and nothing else.

Paper size stays exactly where Class 5 left it, at 50 questions and 60 marks in one hour, with the Achievers Section still worth 20 of those marks. There is no negative marking, and CRO stays single-level.

So the jump from Class 5 is in what you study, not in how long the paper is. Plan for that: you will spend the first weeks learning question types you have never met before, and only later practise speed.

Because the list is long, do not work through it in printed order. Sort it yourself into the topics you know from Classes 3 to 5 and the ones you are meeting for the first time, and begin with the second group.

The exam fee is INR 275 for students studying and enrolling from India. For students studying and residing outside of India, the fee is USD 15.

With so many new topics, give yourself about two months and learn before you drill.

The Hall of Fame records a CRO International Rank 3 in Class 6 (2021-22) for one CREST achiever, and the study method given on that profile is short and plain, thorough study with regular practice. It suits this year well, because most of the list is new to you.

For the first three weeks, learn the new topics one by one. Draw family trees for Blood Relations, sort words into overlapping circles for Logical Venn Diagram, fold and cut real paper for Paper Folding and Paper Cutting, and make a paper dice to check which faces end up opposite each other for Cubes and Dice. For Mathematical Operations, practise questions where the symbols have been swapped, such as + meaning multiply.

In weeks 4 to 6, mix the new topics with the ones you already know, such as Analogy and Classification, Coding - Decoding, Direction Sense Test and Mirror Images and Water Images, in short timed sets.

The class 6 Reasoning cut-off & rankings are usually made public so that students can understand the minimum marking criteria. The fee for a challenge is Rs. 125 per question, and it is returned with 50 reward points if the Academic Council agrees with you.

Because CRO is single-level, your Class 6 results and awards come straight from this paper.
