b. You can be entered by your school if it registers with CREST, or you can fill in the registration form yourself.

d. Check three things on your laptop, desktop or tablet: a working webcam, a screen larger than 11.5 inches and a stable internet connection. Anything running Windows must be on Windows 8 or newer (Macs and iPads are fine too), the browser should be the latest Google Chrome, Edge or Firefox rather than Safari, and you cannot sit it on a phone.
e. Level 1 is the only level of the class 9 CREST Reasoning Olympiad, so that one paper decides your score, rank and awards.
f. Remember to allow camera access in your browser before the practice tests and the main exam, as CREST requires camera permission during the exam.
1. Sharper logic. A published Class 9 testimonial says the Olympiad built up the writer's logical and critical thinking, and that the writer will always take it.
2. A well-run exam. A second Class 9 review likes both the question pattern and the exam procedure.
3. New problem types. Sequential Output Tracing appears for the first time in Class 9, and Puzzle Test returns after three years away.
4. An international yardstick. CREST ranks you within one of five zones and also internationally, which tells you where your reasoning stands next to students you will never meet.

The Reasoning Olympiad syllabus for class 9 changes several names from Class 8. Puzzle Test is back, last listed in Class 5, and Sequential Output Tracing appears for the first time in CRO. Series Completion and Inserting the Missing Characters are now listed as two separate topics. Construction of Squares becomes Construction of Squares and Triangles, Figure Formation becomes Figure Formation and Analysis, and Embedded Figures becomes Spotting Out The Embedded Figures.
Below is the official Section 1 list.
Section 1: Logical Reasoning
The ten Achievers Section questions, each a two-mark Higher Order Thinking Question, are written on this same list.
The hour-long paper has 50 questions and 60 marks in all, forty from Section 1 at a mark each and ten Achievers questions at two marks each. CRO has no negative marking and only one level. CREST treats the syllabus as an outline, so some questions may test a deeper understanding of these topics.
In short, Class 9 asks you to relearn a few familiar topics under new names and to pick up one genuinely new type of question. The rest is depth and speed.
Read the names carefully when you compare them with last year's notes. If a Class 8 topic has picked up a new or longer name, try a handful of its sample paper questions before you plan how long to spend on it.
A ten-minute exercise helps here: put last year's list next to this one and mark each Class 9 entry as new, renamed or unchanged. It stops you from revising the same thing twice.

Begin with what is new. For Sequential Output Tracing, work through the sample paper questions slowly, writing each stage out line by line until you see the pattern. Puzzle Test was last on the list in Class 5, so redo a few seating and arrangement puzzles with a quick sketch.
Next, cover the figure topics: Figure Matrix, Paper Folding and Paper Cutting, Cubes and Dice, Dot Situation, Construction of Squares and Triangles, and Figure Formation and Analysis. Draw them out rather than guessing. Then work through the verbal and number topics, such as Blood Relations, Logical Venn Diagrams, Mathematical Operations and Coding-Decoding.
Once each topic has had a session, take timed full papers from the class 9 Reasoning Olympiad sample papers. You have 72 seconds per question on average. Answer the quick ones first and return to the long ones; since nothing is deducted, never leave a question blank.
More questions sit in CREST's Class 9 workbook, which you can order from the Olympiad books page. Take the free trial at least a week before the exam to check your webcam, browser and connection, and book your exam slot at least 2 days ahead.
