Students of class 5 not only gain knowledge about the environment but also learn how to be a responsible citizen of the Earth. Students understand the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. a. The class 5 International Green Warrior Olympiad welcomes Class 5 students of all boards in all countries, entered by their school or through an individual registration.
b. The International Green Warrior Olympiad (IGWO) runs as one level, and one online paper decides every Class 5 score, rank and award.
c. The exam is written at home, alone, with the webcam on watch. CREST can disqualify the attempt if a second person sits beside the child or if a calculator or phone is used during the paper.
d. Equipment: a webcam, and a tablet, laptop or desktop whose display is larger than 11.5 inches, which can be a Mac, an iPad or a Windows device on Windows 8 or newer. No mobile device can be used to take it. Add a stable internet connection and the latest Google Chrome (Edge or Firefox also work, Safari does not).
e. India pays Rs. 275 and every other country USD 15, and both fees cover two online practice tests that are not compulsory.
1. The last year of the Class 3 list. A child who has followed IGWO since Class 3 meets the same topics for a third time and can go deeper into ones such as biomass, marine food webs and food security.
2. Questions and timing that work. Good questions and a sensible time limit are the two things one Class 5 review picks out.
3. Familiar level, with a twist. Another Class 5 testimonial says the questions are pitched at the child's own class but twisted a little, which it sees as the strength of the exam.
4. Recognition beyond the medals. Children in the top quarter take home a Merit Certificate, and the next quarter receive a digital Honourable Mention, so solid work still counts without a medal.

Classes 3, 4 and 5 of the International Green Warrior Olympiad share one syllabus, so the Green Warrior Olympiad syllabus for class 5 brings no new topics. These are the themes:
Use the year to tie the topics together. Forests and their importance links forests to carbon storage and oxygen production, and to reforestation. Clean energy and the environment links clean energy to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Reducing our carbon footprint brings together energy conservation, transport choices and waste reduction.
Some topics have more parts than they first seem to. Ocean pollution covers plastic waste and oil spills, their effects on marine life, and what individuals can do. Sanitation and hygiene includes diseases that spread through poor sanitation. Renewable and non-renewable energy uses examples like a solar-powered toy car and a wind turbine.
The list also covers the three R's of responsible consumption, waste reduction and upcycling projects, sources of clean water and water purification, types of terrestrial ecosystems from forests to savannas, wetlands and deserts, and the definition of food security.
Sixty minutes, fifty multiple-choice questions, sixty marks: that is the Class 5 paper. Its 40 Green Champ questions score one mark each and its 10 Green Challenger questions two. One level only, and a wrong option takes nothing away. Class 6 starts a different list.

Many children can manage part of their own revision for the class 5 International Green Warrior Olympiad. Let your child make a one-page summary for each theme, with key words, one diagram and one example from home, while you check it once a week.
Good diagrams for this list are a marine food chain, the greenhouse effect, and a chart comparing renewable and non-renewable energy. For practical work, measure how much rainwater a bucket collects in one spell of rain, swap one plastic item for a reusable one for a month, or turn a used bottle into a planter as an upcycling project.
Practice comes from the class 5 Green Warrior Olympiad sample papers, where ten sample questions with answers sit beside a PDF paper to download. Tag every mistake with its theme, and open the next revision session on that theme.
The paper's pace works out at 72 seconds a question. If one question drags on, skip it and return at the end. IGWO deducts nothing for errors, so no question should go unanswered.
Sort out the webcam and browser settings well ahead of exam day with the free trial, and take Practice Test 2 on its scheduled dates as the final check. Registration is handled on the Green Warrior Olympiad registration page.
