Reasoning Olympiad for Class 2

Sharp thinking helps in every subject! And class 2 is the perfect time to develop it. This exam tests reasoning through engaging puzzles, pattern completion, mirror images, direction sense, and many more. This international-level competition helps to strengthen the foundation of students.

The CREST Olympiads strives to promote skill learning in all subjects for students across the countries. It is critical for students to develop the skill of logical reasoning at a young age to master any subject they are interested in. Class 2 students are young, creative, and thoughtful. The CREST Reasoning Olympiad (CRO) is held to assess students' logical and problem-solving abilities. CRO is accessible to students in class 2 & it is an international Reasoning Olympiad exam. 

a. Students of Class 2 can take the CREST Reasoning Olympiad whatever their board (CBSE, ICSE, a State Board or any other) and wherever they live.

b. Schools can enter their students as a group. If your child's school is not taking part, CREST accepts direct registrations from parents on its website.

c. Class 2 is when CREST expects children to manage the paper without an adult beside them. Nobody may sit with the child during the exam; if someone does, the attempt can be disqualified.

d. The exam runs at home in the latest Google Chrome (Edge or Firefox also work, but not Safari), on a laptop, desktop or tablet with a webcam and a screen larger than 11.5 inches. Plan for a stable internet connection. Smartphones are excluded from this exam.

e. The Reasoning Olympiad for class 2 has a single level, so the one paper your child takes decides the result and the awards.

f. Indian families pay a fee of Rs. 275 per subject and families abroad pay USD 15, and the fee includes two practice tests that are optional.

1. Codes and sequences arrive. Coding and Decoding and Series Completion join the list in Class 2, so children start spotting the rule behind a simple letter code or working out what comes next in a series.

2. Ranks for the first time. From Class 2 CREST gives ranks and medals by percentile and zonal rank, so children see for the first time how a competitive paper is scored.

3. Enthusiasm for competing. One Class 2 review describes CREST as a good initiative that builds enthusiasm for competitive exams.

4. Learning year after year. Another Class 2 testimonial, written after two years of taking part, calls CREST quite a learning experience.

International Reasoning Olympiad for class 2 registration can be done by students on their own or by the school.

Students who register separately from school & want to appear for the online Reasoning Olympiad exam for class 2 can follow these simple steps:

2. The registration form pops up.
3. Fill in all the registration form details.
4. Select the exam at the bottom of the details filling section in the registration form you wish to appear in.
5. Read the instructions carefully.
6. Make the payment.
7. Registration is complete.

Note:

1. Reasoning Olympiad Individual registrations by students are accepted.

2. Students who have not done registration through school will have to take exams from home. The individual participating should have a computer or laptop with a webcam and a good internet facility. The exam is monitored through a webcam.

Compared with Class 1, two topics are new in the class 2 Reasoning Olympiad: Coding and Decoding, and Series Completion. Spatial Understanding is no longer listed. The other eight Class 1 topics stay, although they appear in a different order.

The Achievers Section adds 10 Higher Order Thinking Questions at 2 marks apiece. It has no topics of its own and is set on the Section 1 list.

Your child gets 60 minutes for 35 questions and 45 marks: 25 Logical Reasoning questions at 1 mark each, plus the 10 Achievers questions. A wrong option simply scores zero, because CRO has no negative marking, and there is no second level to prepare for.

CREST says its test papers follow the CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabi, and asks families to treat the topic list as an outline. A few questions may stretch a little beyond it.

The exam dates for CREST Reasoning Olympiad (CRO) for Class 2 for the Academic year 2026-27 are as given below:

The exam fee is INR 275 for students studying and enrolling from India. For students studying and residing outside of India, the fee is USD 15.

Plan on about six weeks of short practice, three or four times a week. In Class 2 your child takes the paper alone, so the goal is to make every question type familiar enough to handle without you.

Begin where Class 2 differs from Class 1, with the two topics that are new this year. For Coding and Decoding, invent a family code (A becomes B, B becomes C) and send each other secret words to crack. For Series Completion, write 2, 4, 6, __ or circle, square, circle, __ and ask your child to say the rule out loud before filling the gap.

Then rotate through the rest of the list: Analogy pairs, Odd One Out sets, shapes hidden in drawings for Embedded Figures, cut-out cards for Grouping of Figures, Ranking Test puzzles about children standing in a line, and Measuring Units with a ruler and a kitchen scale.

Once your child can explain each rule without help, it is time for the class 2 Reasoning Olympiad sample papers. Work through each sample paper topic by topic at first, then sit a whole paper with a timer. Thirty-five questions in an hour gives a little under two minutes for each one.

Slots have to be booked on the dashboard two or more days before the exam. Before that, let your child try the free trial test so the webcam screen is not a surprise. On the day, remind them to answer every question, since CRO does not deduct marks.

Class 2 Reasoning cut-off & rankings will be posted on the CREST Olympiads' official website. Students can check their CRO cut-off marks by visiting the website once they are available. This allows students to assess their own performance.

The Reasoning Olympiad answer key for class 2 will be available on the official website. The CREST Reasoning Olympiad (CRO) answer keys are usually released 1 week after the CREST Reasoning Olympiad (CRO) exam. Students can use the CRO answer keys to estimate their probable score.

About a month after the last answer key date, CREST publishes the results of the Reasoning Olympiad for class 2. Your registered login opens the dashboard, where the Performance section has a CRO option.

Class 2 is the first year in which the results carry ranks. CREST ranks children by marks. If two children tie, the one who finished in less time is placed higher, and if they are still level, the younger child by date of birth goes first. Different sessions use different question papers, so the final ranks are normalised.

Awards follow from the result: an Achiever's Trophy for each of the top 3 international ranks, a gold medal for the 96th percentile and above or a zonal rank of 10 or less, silver for 93 to 96 and bronze for 90 to 93, each medal with a Merit Certificate. Further awards reach a wider group: a Merit Certificate for the top quarter, and an Honourable Mention digital certificate for those placed between 25% and 50%.

a. The Class 2 CREST Reasoning Olympiad (CRO) is a single-level exam, so all awards are based on that one exam.

b. International Ranks 1 to 3 in each class receive an Achiever's Trophy and a Merit Certificate.

c. A Gold Medal and a Merit Certificate go to every student at the 96th percentile or above, every student with a zonal rank of 10 or less, and the top 3 school-registered students of each school that has more than 25 students in the class.

d. Students between the 93rd and 96th percentile receive a Silver Medal, and those between the 90th and 93rd percentile a Bronze Medal, each with a Merit Certificate.

e. The top 25% of students receive a Merit Certificate.

f. Students in the top 25% to 50% receive an 'Honourable Mention' Digital Certificate.

g. A student who meets two or more of these criteria receives the higher award. All awards are delivered to the school or home address given at registration.

h. Every online participant receives a Digital Participation Certificate in their dashboard.

1. Can we take the CREST Olympiads exams again if we have already taken them in lower classes?

Yes. This will allow students to improve their previous rankings, and if they are successful, they will become eligible for prizes also.
