CREST's Class 4 Mental Maths Olympiad creates competitive platforms where students develop rapid calculation abilities essential for academic and life success. We (Most Innovative Olympiad Exams) took an initiative for school students by introducing the competition of Mental Maths for class 4 by the name of CREST Mental Maths Olympiad (CMMO). The exam is conducted at an international level with students participating from 60+ countries & 6000+ schools.

Competition of Mental Maths for class 4 aims to test students' logical skills, aptitude, and ability to perform Mathematical operations quickly in mind. This skill is not only crucial in academic studies but also in real-life situations where fast calculations are required.

1. The medium of the exam is English.
2. The Syllabus of various international boards is followed to set the test papers.
3. The exam is to be taken on web-enabled devices like a desktop, a laptop or a tablet larger than 11.5 inches, with a webcam. Mobile devices are not allowed.

Exam Highlights for Class 4 CREST Mental Maths Olympiad (CMMO)

a. Children in Class 4 can enter the CREST Mental Maths Olympiad for class 4 whichever board and country they belong to. Questions are set in English.

b. Schools that want to enter their pupils can email info@crestolympiads.com for the prospectus; if your school has not joined, sign your child up individually.

c. In Class 4 the child works alone and CREST may disqualify an attempt if a second person sits alongside or takes over the test, or if the face drifts out of shot or a calculator or phone is picked up.

d. A desktop, a laptop or a tablet larger than 11.5 inches, with a webcam, will run the paper (phones will not), and Windows machines need Windows 8 or something more recent; Macs and iPads are fine. Use the latest Google Chrome, or Edge or Firefox, but not Safari, and keep the internet connection stable.

e. A Level 2 seat needs either a Level 1 score in the top 66.67% of Class 4 or a top-three place among a school's own entries where that school has put in more than 25 children in the class.

1. Year two, unchanged list. The topic list is a carbon copy of Class 3, so this year is about doing the same kinds of sums faster and with fewer slips.

2. Top of the world list. One Hall of Fame profile shows Mental Maths International Rank 1 in Class 4 (2023-24), then Rank 2 in Class 5 and Rank 1 again in Class 6.

3. Creative thinking with numbers. In one Class 4 review CREST is described as a place where kids learn and practise and explore their knowledge while developing creative thinking.

4. A reason to like the subject. Children grow more interested in the subject through these Olympiads, a point made by another Class 4 testimonial.

Nothing on the topic list moves between Class 3 and Class 4, so the Mental Maths Olympiad syllabus for class 4 is once again:

The prep guide behind it is word for word the Class 3 one as well, so the year is well spent firming up what was learnt: three-digit numbers on the abacus and in expanded form, tables up to 20, factors and multiples, like fractions, conversions of length, weight, capacity and time, money, and the four kinds of angle.

One hour and 80 multiple-choice questions is the Class 4 paper. Its Basique part has 60 questions at a mark apiece and its Avance part 20 at two marks apiece for 100 marks in all. Both levels use this layout and a wrong guess is free. Class 5 moves up to a 100-question paper.

Treat Class 4 as a year for accuracy. Begin each session with five minutes of quick-fire tables up to 20, then pick one topic for the day.

The Class 4 prep guide covers the abacus and money, so practise both. The class 4 Mental Maths sample papers include adding the numbers shown on abacuses, adding $7.45 and $18.20, turning 240 seconds into minutes and writing 10 kg 305 g in grams. Have your child say the working aloud first, then answer.

Keep a short list of the slips made in practice, such as a missed carry or a wrong unit, and go back over it every weekend.

At 80 questions an hour the budget is 45 seconds a question. Set a timer for 15 minutes and aim for 20 questions; when that feels easy, do a full paper. The free trial is the closest thing to exam day and the CREST Mental Maths workbooks sit on the Olympiad books page. Free Class 4 material:

On the official website the class 4 CREST Mental Maths Olympiad (CMMO) answer key dates is made available. Answer keys are released on the answer key dates shown on the exam schedule. Students who are taking the exam can only look at the answer key.

The dashboard shows Class 4 Mental Maths Olympiad Level 1 results within 10 days of the last Level 1 answer key date, and Level 2 results within a month of the last Level 2 answer key date.

A child who meets two or more criteria qualifies for a higher award, and there is a digital participation certificate for each child who sat the paper.

Awards are given to the participants who clear cut-off in CREST Mental Maths Olympiad (CMMO). These awards are usually in the form of Trophies, Medals, Merit Certificates, etc.
