CREST International Drawing Olympiad (CIDO), is an annual mission that empowers young minds to channel their creativity and unleash their artistic prowess for the betterment of our planet! CIDO isn't just any exam. It's a platform that cultivates skills such as recognising edges, understanding space, working with shadows and light, etc. like recognizing natural edges of our world, understanding the vast expanse of space that surrounds us, and mastering the delicate dance of shadows and light that plays upon our Earth's surface. Hence, CIDO focusses on the United Nations Sustaiable Goals.

CIDO is a part of the Green Warrior Initiative the primary objective of which is to cultivate a profound understanding of our duty and the crucial necessity of working together to safeguard the environment and ensure its conservation for present and future generations.

This Drawing Competition is open from the tiny tots of kindergarten to the mighty warriors of grade 10. It's a mission! To ignite the imaginations, fuel the creativity, and equip the students with the tools they need to become true champions of Mother Earth. Drawing is one of the oldest forms of human expression within the visual arts. It is generally concerned with the marking of lines and areas of tone onto paper/other material, where the accurate representation of the visual world is expressed upon a plane surface. It is considered the best form of expression, which reveals true imagination. The CIDO exam allows students to maintain a balance between academics and co-curricular activities, providing them with opportunities to express themselves in ways beyond the traditional classroom setting. Through the CREST International Drawing Olympiad exam, students can showcase their creativity and imagination and develop their skills further. The exam evaluates the Creative Skills of the students.

Other Important Information:

  1. Material to be used
    • i) HB pencil, pencil sharpener, eraser, drawing board.
    • ii) Colours as per requirement: Pastel colours, painting brush, crayons, oil pastel colours, pencil colours, etc.
    • iii) White-coloured drawing sheet

  2. Drawing Sheet Specification
    • i) A4-size drawing Sheet (size: 210 mm / 297 mm)
    • ii) A border of 1 cm should be given to the drawing sheet and the drawing should be done inside the borders.
    • iii) Candidate's name, CREST ID and Class must be written outside the border (left bottom corner) of the sheet.

  3. Drawing Guidelines
    • i) Make sure your drawing surface is clean and flat.
    • ii) If you are drawing with a pencil, make sure that the images are sharp and crisp. We do not want to see any pencil marks or broken lines.
    • iii) After every 7-10 minutes, the student has to show his drawing to the camera for the examinee committee to keep track of the completion of the drawing failure to which may lead to the disqualification of the student.

  4. Taking and uploading a photo of your drawing
    • i) For taking the photo, keep your drawing on a plain background and click the picture of the drawing only, minimising the picture of the plain background. The image taken should be of high resolution.
    • ii) If you are scanning, make sure it has great scan quality. There should not be any grey shades or marks from the scanner.
    • iii) We recommend you to use Adobe Scan or Microsoft Office Scan or any other scanner which gives good output.
    • iv) Upload the picture of the drawing at the Google Drive here within 15 minutes of your exam submission, failing which may lead to disqualification.
    • v) The size of the uploaded picture should not be more than 10 MB. Also, the format of the uploaded image should be *.jpg or *.jpeg or *.png.


  5. Device to be used for examination and location
    • i) The online exams are conducted on web-enabled devices like laptops, tablets or desktops with a webcam. Mobile devices are not allowed.
    • ii) For students of Classes KG and 1, the parent/teacher can assist the child in guiding them while uploading the image.
    • iii) In case the registration is not through school, the student will have to take the exam from home.

How to participate in International Drawing Olympiad?

The basic requirements for participation

  • i) Gather your materials for e.g. paper, a pencil, an eraser, and perhaps some pens or markers if you want to add colour later.
  • ii) Find a comfortable, well-lit area to work in. Make sure you have enough space to move your arm freely. You should be facing the camera and yes, do not forget to show your drawing to the camera after every 10 minutes.
  • iii) Take a moment to really look at your topics. Pay attention to its shapes, proportions, and details.
  • iv) Once you have finalised topics, start adding details and gradually refine your drawing.
  • v) To give your drawing depth and dimension, add shading to create highlights and shadows. You can also add texture by varying the pressure of your pencil or adding cross-hatching.

Quality of Scan

When scanning your drawing for upload, ensure it maintains excellent quality without any grey shades or scanner marks. When taking a photo, place your drawing on a plain background and capture only the drawing, minimizing background distractions. Consider whether your drawing is of such high quality that it could be printed and framed as a masterpiece.

Drawing Evaluation Mechanism

Three panelists will evaluate each drawing, with two panelists assessing each drawing initially. If the marks assigned by the two panelists closely align, the average of their marks will be used. However, if there is a significant discrepancy between the marks given by the two panelists—i.e., if there is a difference of more than 10 marks; the third panelist will intervene. The final mark will be determined by comparing the mark given by the third panelist with the marks given by the initial two panelists, and selecting the mark that is closer to the third panelist's assessment. This approach ensures fair and accurate evaluation of each drawing.

The exam dates for CREST International Drawing Olympiad (CIDO) for the Academic Year 2024-25 are as given below:
