a. Class 2 is the first year a child faces the IGWO paper without a helper. Anyone sitting beside the child can get the attempt disqualified. The same applies if the face slips out of the camera's view, if a calculator comes out, or if a phone or any other electronic gadget is in use.

b. Any board and any country is fine for the class 2 International Green Warrior Olympiad. Entry comes either through the school or through an individual registration.

c. The exam is written at home and watched over by webcam. A computer (laptop or desktop) or a tablet will do if it carries a webcam and its display is more than 11.5 inches; on a computer the operating system must be Windows 8 or newer. Plan for a stable internet line, and keep phones away.

On exam day, 35 multiple-choice questions fill 60 minutes and add up to 45 marks. The Green Champ section gives a mark for each of its 25 questions; Green Challenger doubles that for each of its 10. Guessing loses nothing. From Class 3, the list grows longer.

Exam Fee

A theme a week is a comfortable pace for the class 2 International Green Warrior Olympiad: the eight themes fit into about two months, with time left for revision. Keep each sitting to around twenty minutes.

Make every theme a small project. For water, keep a one-day tally of how many times the family opens a tap. For energy, walk round the house before bed and count switches left on. For cities, ride a bus or metro and talk about why one bus is better than many cars. For consumption, pack a cloth bag for the next shopping trip. For the sea, draw three ocean animals and what harms them; for land, name the trees on your street.
