a. Any Class 3 student, from any board and any country, can sit the Science Olympiad for Class 3.

c. Your child works through the paper alone at home. Calculators, mobiles and other electronic devices must stay out of reach, and if someone else accesses the test, the attempt can be disqualified.

d. Kit list: a laptop, desktop or tablet (more than 11.5 inches) running Windows 8 or above (or else a Mac or an iPad), a webcam, a stable internet connection and the latest Google Chrome (or Edge or Firefox; never Safari). Mobile phones are not on the list.

e. After Level 1, about two-thirds of the class goes through to Level 2: the top 66.67%. Any school with over 25 Class 3 students also sends its three highest scorers among the students it registered.

2. Students who have not done registration through school will have to take exams from home. The individual participating should have a webcam and a good internet facility. Achievers Section: Higher Order Thinking Questions. Its syllabus is as per Section 1.

The paper: 35 questions in an hour, for 45 marks, with 25 Section 1 questions at 1 mark and the 10 in the Achievers Section at 2. Level 2 has the same length and format. There is no negative marking, so encourage your child to attempt every question.

Light, Sound and Force is the one to watch: it is the first topic on the list about how things work rather than what things are.

The exam fee is INR 275 for students studying and enrolling from India. For students studying and residing outside of India, the fee is USD 15.

Give Class 3 preparation about six to eight weeks, with short sessions on school days and one longer session at the weekend.

The new topics need the most time. For Light, Sound and Force, make shadows with a torch, pluck a stretched rubber band to hear sound, and push and pull toys across the floor. For Matter and Materials, collect ten objects and sort them by what they are made of. For Birds, look at beaks and feet in pictures and guess what each bird eats. Our Environment is easier after a short walk: what did you see that was clean, what was dirty, and what could be reused?

After each topic, try questions from the Science Olympiad questions for Class 3. Keep a full sample paper for later, and the previous year paper in the table below for the last week.

Timing: 35 questions in 60 minutes gives a little over a minute and a half each. If your child gets stuck, teach them to pick the likeliest option and move on, since nothing is deducted for a wrong answer. The free trial helps them get used to the webcam and the timer.

In the final week, give Birds and Matter and Materials one more look; they are new this year. Then stop, rest, and let your child go into the exam fresh.

The CREST Science Olympiad cut-off marks are decided by taking into account elements such as the exam's difficulty level, the number of students who took the exam and much more. By developing an answer key list that is released after the actual examination, CREST Olympiads has made estimating the score before the actual results simple.
