International Green Warrior Olympiad for Class 10: An Introduction

Class 10 students are getting close to choosing the subjects and paths they will follow after school, and environmental questions now touch almost every field, from engineering and economics to farming and design. The International Green Warrior Olympiad (IGWO) for Class 10 gives fifteen- and sixteen-year-olds a chance to look at sustainability the way decision-makers do: by weighing problems, costs and solutions together.

A central idea at this level is the difference between mitigation and adaptation. Mitigation means cutting greenhouse gas emissions through renewable energy and better energy efficiency, while adaptation means preparing communities for changes already under way, such as more frequent extreme weather. Students also study the economic and social consequences of climate change and how each person can reduce their own carbon footprint.

Every one of the eight exam themes is rooted in a UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). Alongside water, energy and climate, students explore Responsible Consumption and Production through e-waste and sustainable purchasing decisions, Life On Land through combating desertification and restoring degraded soil, and Food Security and Agriculture through climate-smart farming, regenerative agriculture and reducing post-harvest food losses.

Governments, businesses and scientists are working on these same questions today. Exploring them in Class 10 helps students form well-reasoned views, contribute thoughtfully to discussions and make informed choices as consumers and citizens.

The Olympiad evaluates how well Class 10 students understand environmental challenges, analyse possible solutions and apply what they know to real decisions.

a) The exam is conducted in English.
b) It is based on 8 of the 17 UN SDGs and examines how the goals connect, and what individuals, communities and nations each contribute towards achieving them.
c) This is a webcam-proctored online exam taken from home on a laptop, desktop or tablet with a webcam; mobile phones are not allowed.
d) Class 10 students complete the exam independently.

Exam Highlights for Class 10 International Green Warrior Olympiad (IGWO)

The Class 10 IGWO is a one-level, one-hour online paper, which makes it a manageable addition to a busy school year.

Any Class 10 student, in India or abroad, is eligible. Schools may register their students, or students can apply directly.

For Class 10 students, the International Green Warrior Olympiad (IGWO) is a chance to bring together what they know about science, geography and society. It helps them:

Exam Fee

The fee is ₹275 in India and USD 15 for international students.

A useful approach for Class 10 is to study each syllabus theme as a problem-and-solution pair. For climate, set the causes and impacts beside mitigation and adaptation measures; for food, set post-harvest losses and food waste beside climate-smart and regenerative farming; for consumption, set e-waste beside ways to extend the life of devices.

Following current environmental news adds real examples to these ideas. Keep a short glossary of key terms, revise it regularly, and use the CREST sample papers in timed one-hour sittings to practise the MCQ format.

International Green Warrior Olympiad Worksheet for Class 10

International Green Warrior Olympiad Registration

Class 10 candidates will find the answer key release dates on the official CREST website. Expect the key within about a week of the last exam date; it is open only to students who took the exam.

Class 10 candidates can check the IGWO cut-off online as well; it is the score students must reach to qualify for awards.

For Class 10, the IGWO result generally arrives about a month after the last answer key date. That single announcement closes the 2026-27 Olympiad for students, since there is no second level.

Trophies, medals and merit certificates are among the awards for Class 10 students who clear the International Green Warrior Olympiad (IGWO) cut-off. This recognition reflects the commitment it takes to understand complex environmental issues, and it is something students can be proud of as they move into senior school. 1. How many levels does the Class 10 IGWO have?

The Class 10 International Green Warrior Olympiad has a single level, Level 1, held on 14 and 23 January 2027.

2. How do Class 10 students register?

Registration is online. Students can sign up individually, or their school can register them.

3. Will I lose marks for a wrong answer?

No. There is no penalty for a wrong answer in the IGWO, so it is worth attempting every question.

4. Is there a practice test before the main exam?

Yes. Practice Test 2 is scheduled for 20 and 21 November 2026, ahead of the Level 1 exam in January 2027. Students can also practise with the IGWO sample papers for class 10.
