For Class 8 the topic list is the same as in Classes 6 and 7. The Reasoning Olympiad syllabus for class 8 still carries the full range of question types, and the paper for each class is set separately, a little harder than the one before.
Think of each topic by what it asks you to do. The family-tree questions ask you to build relationships from clues. The circle diagrams ask which groups overlap. The operations questions swap the usual symbols for new ones. The grid and dot questions ask for the rule hiding across a picture. The folding, cutting and dice questions test whether you can picture a shape in three dimensions before you see it.
Section 1, worth 40 marks
Those topics also fill the Achievers Section, in the form of ten Higher Order Thinking Questions worth two marks each.
The paper: 50 questions, 60 marks, one hour. There are 40 questions in Section 1 at 1 mark each, plus the 10 Achievers questions. No marks are lost for a wrong option, and CRO has only one level.
CREST says its test papers follow the CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabi, and that the topic list is only an outline. Because CRO is a competitive exam, the paper may include a few questions that check a more advanced understanding.
Treat the list as a checklist. Tick a topic only when you can solve three fresh questions on it without help; anything still unticked two weeks before the exam goes to the top of your plan.
If you sat CRO in Classes 6 and 7, your notes from those years still line up with this list topic for topic, so build on them rather than starting from scratch.
The exam dates for CREST Reasoning Olympiad (CRO) for Class 8 for the Academic year 2026-27 are as given below:

After two years with these topics, Class 8 preparation is about removing your weak spots. Start with a diagnostic.
Take one full paper from the class 8 Reasoning Olympiad sample papers under exam conditions, meaning the full 50 questions against a 60-minute timer. Mark each wrong or slow question with its topic. The topics with the most marks against them are your plan for the next three weeks.
Keep an error log by topic, not by date. Next to each mistake, write the rule you missed in one line, for example 'in water images, top and bottom swap'. Re-read the log twice a week.
Give your weak topics extra work from the CREST Class 8 workbook, which is sold on the Olympiad books page. Practise in sets of 15 questions in 18 minutes, which is the exam pace of 72 seconds a question.
Two weeks out, switch back to full sample papers, one every few days. Take the free trial if you have not, and book your slot early enough to meet the two-day rule.
Watch the clock in a smart way. After 30 minutes you should be about halfway through the paper. If you are well behind, check whether the figure questions are where the time went, and practise those in shorter bursts. If you are ahead, use the spare minutes to recheck the Achievers questions, which carry 2 marks each.
Finally, rest. A clear head on exam morning is worth more than a last paper at midnight.
