2. Words through their relationships. Analogies and Spellings appears for the first time, and Synonyms, Antonyms and One Word are back, so vocabulary is tested through links between words, not only meanings.

3. Thinking, not guessing. According to one Class 7 review, the questions are tricky enough that you have to stop and reason, and that habit sharpens how you think.

2. Students who have not done registration through school will have to take exams from home. The individual participating should have a webcam and a good internet facility. The class 7 English Olympiad syllabus brings back several vocabulary topics. Compared with Class 6, Homonyms and Homophones, Synonyms, Antonyms, Analogies and Spellings, One Word, Modals and Word Order are new, and Voices and Narration is now a single topic. Achievers Section: ten tougher questions, of the Higher Order Thinking type, built from the same twenty-five topics.

Expect 50 questions, 60 minutes and 60 marks in both Level 1 and Level 2, with 1 mark for each English Language question and 2 for each of the 10 in the Achievers Section. A wrong answer costs you nothing beyond the mark you missed.

The exam fee is INR 275 for students studying and enrolling from India. For students studying and residing outside of India, the fee is USD 15.

Eight weeks of steady work suits Class 7. Try 45-minute sessions, alternating grammar days with vocabulary and reading days. On top of that, read one newspaper article a day and underline every phrasal verb or idiom you meet.

For grammar, write sentences with each modal and explain the difference between "may" and "might", or "should" and "must". Fix scrambled sentences for word order. Practise voice and narration together, since Class 7 lists them as one topic. For vocabulary, make analogy pairs (pen is to writer as brush is to painter) and test yourself on homonyms and homophones. For reading, use advertisements, notices and a short biography from a magazine, and answer questions on each.
