Think about how easy it would be for your child to read with fluency, spell correctly, and love the English language right from his childhood days. CREST English Olympiad for Nursery has been introduced to help your child develop English language skills by providing interactive picture based questions. The exciting rewards keeps them motivates and make learning more enjoyable for kids. The online test is specifically tailored for helping your child acquire vital English language skills such as spelling, reading, and comprehending basic words from early age. The well curated questions help the students to learn new words and sounds and apply them in a fun way.

a. Children aged 3 to 4 years can enter the English Olympiad for Nursery. The school board does not matter (CBSE, ICSE, IB, a State Board or any other), and neither does the country you live in.
b. You can enter your child in one of two ways. The school can enrol the class, or you can complete the registration yourself on the CREST website.
c. Nobody expects a Nursery child to manage the test alone. A parent or teacher sits alongside, reads out and explains each question, and the child then chooses the answer.
d. The whole exam runs online and your child takes it from home. Keep ready a laptop, desktop or tablet whose screen is over 11.5 inches (a Mac, an iPad, or a Windows device running Windows 8 or above), a webcam left on for the full test, a stable internet connection and the latest Google Chrome, with Edge or Firefox as other options (but not Safari); phones are not an option.
e. Nursery has two levels. Level 2 is open to every Nursery child who scores 60% or more in Level 1.
f. CREST has held its Olympiads since 2019, for children from 60+ countries and 6000+ schools.
1. Letters start to make sounds. The Nursery paper asks children to recognise capital and small letters and match them with their sounds. Soon your child may start pointing out letters on shop signs and cereal boxes.
2. Words for the world they already know. Questions on feelings such as happy, sleepy or scared, on colours, and on things found around the home give a three-year-old names for what they see every day.
3. A calm first test, with you beside them. A grown-up reads every question aloud and there is no ranking, so the whole thing stays relaxed. It is a first look at what a test feels like, nothing more.
4. A medal to hold. Reach 60% or more in Level 2 and a Star Medal is sent out with a Merit Certificate; everyone who takes part also finds a Digital Participation Certificate waiting on the dashboard.

Nursery is the first rung of the CREST English Olympiad ladder, so nothing comes before it to compare. The English Olympiad syllabus for Nursery stays close to a small child's day: letters, simple actions, feelings, colours and the things they see at home.
Section 1
Achievers Section: its Higher Order Thinking Questions stay inside the six groups listed above, so there is nothing extra to learn, only questions that need a second look.
Twenty-five questions make up the paper, with 45 minutes to answer them and 30 marks on offer, since the English Language section has 20 questions worth a mark each and the Achievers Section 5 worth two. Level 2 uses the same 25-question, 45-minute format, and no marks are taken away for a wrong answer. Spellings and meanings are checked against the Oxford Learner's Dictionary.

At three, preparation is really just play with a goal in mind. Ten minutes a day is plenty for a three-year-old, and it is fine to skip a day. Stop while your child is still smiling.
Use what is already around you. Point to the letters on a book cover and say their sounds together. Play "show me" with actions: clap, hop, wave, sit, stand. Pull faces for happy, sad, angry and sleepy and let your child name the feeling. Sort crayons by colour. Walk through the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom naming things, then play opposites with a hot and a cold cup, or a wet and a dry cloth.
Games first, papers second: once your child is enjoying them, the two of you can try the Nursery English Olympiad sample papers. You read, your child listens and taps an answer, and nobody hurries. If one goes wrong, return to the game version later instead of correcting on the spot.
The real test gives 45 minutes for 25 questions, about 1 minute 48 seconds each, so speed is never the issue. Getting used to the screen matters more. The free trial test is a replica of the main exam and lets your child see the platform and the webcam before the real day. If you would like something on paper as well, the CREST workbooks are on the Olympiad books page.

Since the examination is parent/teacher assisted, no ranking system is followed. Every candidate scoring 60% or more in the final level examination is awarded a Star Medal and Merit Certificate. To maintain complete transparency, the answer key is released before the declaration of final results, and participants are also given the opportunity to challenge any question or answer in case of doubt.
To see the Nursery result, log in with the credentials you registered with, open the dashboard, and choose Performance, Results and Select Subjects in turn. Level 1 scores are usually posted within 10 days of the last Level 1 answer key date, and Level 2 scores within a month of the last Level 2 answer key date.
There are no ranks at this age, because a parent or teacher assists. The score decides the reward instead. If your child gets 60% or more in Level 2, a Star Medal and a Merit Certificate are sent to the school or home address given at registration. Each child who takes part can also download a Digital Participation Certificate.
After Level 1, the number to look for is 60%: that score or more means a place in Level 2. Whatever the score, the answer key shows which questions were tricky, and the letter or colour games can pick up from there.
a. Students scoring 60% or more in Level 2 will be awarded a Star Medal along with a Merit Certificate.
b. Other participants will receive a Digital Participation Certificate, accessible through their dashboard.
c. No ranking system is followed for students of Classes Nursery, Junior KG, Senior KG and 1.
