CREST Science Olympiad (CSO) is one of the well-known exams among students. It is for students from Nursery to Class 10. a. The Science Olympiad for Class 5 welcomes students from every board and every country. CREST Olympiads have grown to 6000+ schools since 2019.

3. A twist on familiar questions. One Class 5 review says CREST asks questions from the same class but twists them a bit, which shows a child how well they really understand a topic.

4. Pace and planning. The paper grows to 50 questions this year. A Class 5 reviewer liked the questions and found the time limit nice, and learning to work at that pace now helps in every class after this one.

1. Science Olympiad Individual registrations by students are accepted.

2. Students who have not done registration through school will have to take exams from home. The individual participating should have a webcam and a good internet facility. Use a laptop, desktop or tablet with a screen larger than 11.5 inches: a Windows computer or tablet running Windows 8 or above, a Mac, or an iPad. Phones cannot be used. Use the latest version of Google Chrome (Edge or Firefox also work); the exam cannot be taken on the Safari browser. The exam is monitored through a webcam.

The Science Olympiad syllabus for Class 5 keeps Animals, Plants, Earth and Universe, and Force, Work and Energy from Class 4. Human Body and Health, Natural Resources, and Pollution and Calamities are new, and Matter takes the place of Matter and Materials. Food and Digestion, Clothing and Our Environment are not listed this year.

Achievers Section (Higher Order Thinking Questions): there is no separate syllabus, as it follows Section 1.

The paper gets bigger too. Class 5 sits a 50-question paper in an hour, out of 60 marks, made up of 40 one-mark questions in Section 1 and 10 Achievers questions carrying 2 marks apiece. Level 2 matches this pattern, and wrong answers lose nothing.

CREST calls its syllabus an outline, and a few questions can go a little beyond it, so understanding each topic matters more than memorising lists.

The exam fee is INR 275 for students studying and enrolling from India. For students studying and residing outside of India, the fee is USD 15.

Start about eight weeks ahead. With more questions in the same hour, Class 5 needs both concept work and speed practice.

Group the topics. Do Animals and Plants together, then Human Body and Health with a simple chart of food groups and the main organs. Natural Resources and Pollution and Calamities fit well side by side: list the resources your family uses in a day, and read one news report about a flood or a cyclone. Matter, and Force, Work and Energy, can be done with kitchen experiments, like watching ice melt or rolling a toy car down a slope. Earth and Universe ends the list; sketch the planets in order.

Starting early can pay off. A student who took CSO International Rank 1 in Class 5 went on to top CSO internationally again in Class 8 and in Class 10, as the Hall of Fame page shows.

Work through the Science Olympiad questions for Class 5 topic by topic, then as full papers. With 50 questions in an hour, each one gets 72 seconds on average, and a kitchen timer helps your child feel that pace. Also take the free trial at least once.

In the last week, have your child redo only the questions they got wrong, and sit one final full paper at the same time of day as the booked slot.

The CREST Science Olympiad cut-off marks are decided by taking into account elements such as the exam's difficulty level, the number of students who took the exam and much more. By developing an answer key list that is released after the actual examination, CREST Olympiads has made estimating the score before the actual results simple. Level 1 is the gate: the top 55.56% of Class 5 go on to Level 2, together with the three highest scorers a school registered, wherever more than 25 sat Class 5. After Level 2, the 96th percentile and above (or any zonal rank of 10 or less) brings gold, 93 to 96 silver, and 90 to 93 bronze. Merit Certificates go to the top 25%. If a student meets two or more of these criteria, the higher award is the one given.

a. Awards for the Class 5 CREST Science Olympiad (CSO) are based on the Level 2 exam.

b. International Ranks 1 to 3 in each class receive an Achiever's Trophy and a Merit Certificate.

c. A Gold Medal and a Merit Certificate go to every student at the 96th percentile or above, every student with a zonal rank of 10 or less, and the top 3 school-registered students of each school that has more than 25 students in the class.

d. Students between the 93rd and 96th percentile receive a Silver Medal, and those between the 90th and 93rd percentile a Bronze Medal, each with a Merit Certificate.

e. The top 25% of students receive a Merit Certificate.

f. Students in the top 25% to 50% receive an 'Honourable Mention' Digital Certificate.

g. Every student who qualifies for Level 2 and whose Level 2 marks are not in the bottom 10% receives at least an 'Honourable Mention' Digital Certificate.

h. A student who meets two or more of these criteria receives the higher award. All awards are delivered to the school or home address given at registration.
