a. Children of every board can enter in Class 2, whether CBSE, ICSE, a State Board or another, in India or overseas.
b. From Class 2 your child takes the exam alone. CREST allows someone to sit with the child only up to Class 1, and an adult beside a Class 2 child can lead to disqualification.
c. You can register through your child's school if it is taking part. If it is not, register your child yourself; CREST also takes direct sign-ups.
d. On exam day your child needs a laptop, desktop or tablet (screen over 11.5 inches) with a webcam, a stable internet connection and the latest Google Chrome (Edge or Firefox also work; Safari cannot be used). Windows devices need Windows 8 or above, while a Mac or an iPad is fine. Phones and other mobile devices are not supported. Keep your child's face fully visible to the camera throughout.
e. In Class 2 the Spelling Bee competition is a one-level exam. Ranks and awards are worked out from that one paper.
f. Each subject costs Rs. 275 in India, or USD 15 outside India. Two practice tests online come with it, and taking them is up to you.
1. A bigger, busier word list. Class 2 words stretch from ambulance, backpack and bandage to whiteboard, wicketkeeper and zinnia, which means plenty of longer words and compound words to practise.
2. Working alone for the first time. Without an adult beside them, children practise reading every question for themselves and managing the full hour.
3. Ranks start here. Class 2 is the first CSBW class with ranks and with medals based on percentile and zonal rank. A published Class 2 testimonial values CREST as a way for children to see how well they are doing.
4. Useful and innovative. Another Class 2 review finds CREST a worthy, useful and innovative platform for kids.

The exam dates for CREST International Spell Bee Competition (Winter) (CSBW) for Class 2 for the Academic year 2026-27 are as given below:
| Exam dates | 7th January 2027 16th January 2027 |
| When to register | We suggest Class 2 parents sign up for CSBW ahead of Practice 2. Their child then experiences the genuine exam format. |
| Answer key dates | 19th - 20th January 2027 |
| Result date | Generally, the results are announced within a month of the last answer key date |
Note: Check Olympiad exam dates for other CREST Olympiads subjects as well.
The exam fee is INR 275 for students studying and enrolling from India. For students studying and residing outside of India, the fee is USD 15.
Give the preparation about six weeks, with four or five short sessions a week. Because your child will be on their own in the exam, let them read the questions and choose the answers while you only check afterwards.
Take the list one or two letters per session. Your child can copy each word into a notebook, mark the ones they get wrong and come back to those the next day. The CREST word pages for single words, such as capsule and cricketer, add a meaning and sample sentences.
Compound words are a good way into Word Fusion: backpack, whiteboard and wicketkeeper are all on the list, and children can split them and build new ones.
Week five is for the class 2 Spell Bee sample papers. Finish one sample paper in a single sitting, with a clock, so your child gets used to 40 questions in 60 minutes, which is 90 seconds a question.
Class 2 also has its own Spell Bee (Winter) workbook on the Olympiad books page. Let your child try the free trial test too, since it copies the real exam screen. Book the slot at least two days in advance, and remind your child that a wrong answer loses nothing, so no question should be left blank.

The Spell Bee answer key contains correct answers to all of the exam questions. Students can estimate their scores in the CREST International Spell Bee Winter (CSBW) Olympiad exam. Students can access the CREST Spell Bee answer keys by logging in with the credentials & going to the dashboard section.
Class 2 Spell Bee results are released within a month of the last answer key date. Your registered username and password open the dashboard, where the result sits in the Performance section.
This is the first year of ranks. Children are ranked on marks. When two have equal marks, the quicker finisher goes first; if that is also equal, the one born later goes first, and anyone still level shares the rank. Ranks are normalised at the end because sessions on different days use different papers.
Medals go to the top 15% of students, Merit Certificates to the top 25% and Honourable Mention certificates to the top 60%, and the world's top 3 receive an Achiever's Trophy. See Awards & Recognition for the full criteria.
Next year the paper changes shape: Class 3 adds the listening section, Get, Set, Spell!, and goes up to 50 questions.
The students are recognized for their performance and it’s one of the great ways to encourage them to do such great things again and again. CREST Olympiads awards top performers of Classes 2 to 8 with trophies, medals and certificates based on their international, school and percentile ranks in the CREST Spelling Bee (Winter) competition exam. Senior KG and Class 1 students are not ranked; those scoring 60% or more receive a Star Medal and Merit Certificate, and every participant receives a digital participation certificate. Students can check the Olympiad awards & recognition in detail.
