Senior KG is the first class in the CREST International Drawing Olympiad (CIDO), which runs from Senior KG to Class 10. At this age the exam is a single drawing on a white A4 sheet, made in 45 minutes in front of a webcam, and you are allowed to sit beside your child the whole time.
The Senior KG topics come from UN SDG 15 - Life on Land, and they are things small children already enjoy drawing: a Spotted Ladybug, a Playful Cat, a Long-necked Giraffe, a train, a lake, and a Fantasy Mushroom in any colours your child likes. Each picture needs a short title written inside the border. When the drawing is done, you can help photograph the sheet and upload it.
There are no ranks in Senior KG. A drawing that scores 60% or more earns a Star Medal and a Merit Certificate, and every other child gets a Digital Participation Certificate. Level 1 is held on 21st and 25th July 2026, and the fee is INR 275 in India or USD 15 outside India.

a. The CREST International Drawing Olympiad for Senior KG takes young artists from every school board, whether CBSE, ICSE, IB or a State Board, living in India or outside it. Either the school enters its Senior KG group together or a parent registers the child on the CREST website.
b. Senior KG is the youngest class in CIDO, which is open from Senior KG up to Class 10.
c. Help from a parent or teacher is allowed at this age. You may stay beside your child through the drawing, and you can guide them when the photo of the finished sheet is uploaded.
d. A child who is not registered through a school takes the exam at home. The drawing is watched through the webcam of a laptop or desktop, or a tablet whose display goes beyond 11.5 inches. A Windows device should run Windows 8 or above, and a Mac or an iPad works too; a mobile phone cannot be used for the exam. Keep the internet connection stable and open the exam in Google Chrome at its latest version; Edge or Firefox will also do, Safari will not.
e. Senior KG has one level. No Level 2 follows and no ranks are given in Senior KG; a drawing that scores 60% or more wins its young artist a Star Medal and a Merit Certificate.
1. A first exam full of colour. The Senior KG list is made of friendly subjects: a spotted ladybug, a playful cat, a long train, a giraffe with a long neck. Little children can picture every one of them, so the exam feels like drawing time rather than a test.
2. Busy little hands. Holding a crayon or pencil steady for a whole picture, keeping inside a 1 cm border and filling shapes with colour is good practice for the hand and eye together.
3. Star Medal, no ranking. Ranking starts only in Class 2. Until then the yardstick is a fixed mark: any drawing that is scored 60% or more brings its artist both a Star Medal and a Merit Certificate, and taking part online is itself recognised with a digital participation certificate.
4. Room for the youngest. One review is glad that the youngest children get their own turn to take part, and adds that the topics in CREST exams help in everyday classwork too.

The International Drawing Olympiad syllabus for Senior KG is built around one United Nations goal, UN SDG 15 - Life on Land, and gives your child eight things to draw. All eight are below.
CREST describes Life on Land as the ecosystems, living things and habitats found on the land surface of the Earth, from forests and grasslands to deserts and tundra, with plants, animals, fungi and tiny organisms all suited to where they live. For a Senior KG child that simply means animals, plants and places on land, and most of the topics below are just that.
UN SDG 15 - Life on Land
CIDO starts at Senior KG, so this list is the very first one in the competition. None of the eight is a poster: each one is a single creature, object or place, which keeps the drawing simple to plan.
Read each title closely, because the words give the idea away. A Fantasy Mushroom can have any colours and patterns your child dreams up. The caterpillar is crawling and the train is fast and long, so both want a sense of movement. The cat is playful, so show it doing something, and the lake is pleasant, so think of a calm sky and still water. The Jack - O - Lantern is a carved pumpkin with a face, and the giraffe is all about its long neck.
The Senior KG paper is one drawing in 45 minutes, marked out of 100. Classes 1 to 10 get 60 minutes. No second level exists in CIDO, so this one sheet is the entire exam.
Marks are given under six set categories, 100 in all: Originality/Creativity 20, Title/Caption 10, Neatness and Composition 30, Message Conveyed 10, Theme Adherence 15 and Quality of Scan 15. Neatness and Composition looks at layout, balance, overall impact, line quality, colouring and shading, detailing and craftsmanship.
Kit for the day. Keep ready an HB pencil, a sharpener, an eraser and a drawing board, and the colours your child likes: crayons, oil pastels, pencil colours, or pastel colours with a painting brush. The sheet must be a white A4 drawing sheet (210 mm by 297 mm).
Setting up the sheet. Rule a 1 cm border on all four sides; the whole drawing goes inside it. Outside the border, at the bottom left corner, write your child's name, CREST ID and class.
While drawing. Work on a clean, flat table. Pencil lines should be sharp and crisp, without stray marks or broken lines. Every 7-10 minutes the drawing must be shown to the camera so its progress can be tracked; missing it risks disqualification, so help your child remember.
At the end. Photograph or scan the drawing for upload. For a photo, place the sheet on a plain background and capture the drawing only, in high resolution. A scan should be clear, with no grey shades or scanner marks; Adobe Scan, Microsoft Office Scan or any good scanner will do. The image must be .jpg, .jpeg or .png and no bigger than 10 MB. An upload screen opens as soon as the exam is submitted, and the photo must go in within 5 minutes, failing which the attempt may be disqualified, so keep the sheet and camera ready.

|
Level 1 Exam Dates |
21st & 25th July 2026 |

When to Register |
Senior KG parents, we prefer CIDO registration before Practice 2 so your child experiences a real drawing exam. |
| Result Date | Generally, the results are announced within a month's time after the last answer key date |
Note: Check Olympiad exam dates for other CREST Olympiads subjects as well.
The exam fee is INR 275 for students studying and enrolling from India. For students studying and residing outside of India, the fee is USD 15.
Keep practice short and playful. Ten to fifteen minutes of drawing together, most days, is plenty at this age.
Take one topic a day for eight days. Start with the easy round shapes: the Fantasy Mushroom and the Spotted Ladybug are mostly circles and dots. Then try the Crawling Caterpillar as a row of joined circles, and the Playful Cat with a ball of wool. The Fast and Long Train is good for straight lines and rectangles, and the Pleasant Lake for wide strokes of blue and green. Leave the Carved Jack - O - Lantern and the Long-necked Giraffe for later, as they need a little more planning.
Each time, ask your child to give the picture a name of a few words and write it inside the border for them. CREST asks for a title of no more than 6 words, written inside the border.
Next, open the Senior KG International Drawing Olympiad sample papers and draw one of the topics in a single sitting of 45 minutes. A rough split is 10 minutes for the outline, 25 for colouring and the rest for the title and a last look. Practise holding the sheet up to the camera every few minutes so it becomes a habit.
Finally, sit the free trial together; it follows the real drawing exam step for step. Your child draws, and the drawing comes back with feedback.

Since the examination is parent/teacher assisted, no ranking system is followed. Every candidate scoring 60% or more in the final level examination is awarded a Star Medal and Merit Certificate. To maintain complete transparency, the answer key is released before the declaration of final results, and participants are also given the opportunity to challenge any question or answer in case of doubt.
The Senior KG International Drawing Olympiad results arrive within a month of the last answer key date. The drawing's score appears under performance on the dashboard once you sign in with your registration details.
Senior KG has no ranks: CREST keeps this exam parent/teacher assisted and rank-free. Should the drawing be marked 60% or more, your child is sent a Star Medal plus a Merit Certificate, posted to the address (school or home) that you gave at registration, and a digital participation certificate for every online entrant is kept on the dashboard.
There is no second round in CIDO, and this result ends the drawing contest for the year. In Class 1 the drawing theme moves from life on land to UN SDG 14 - Life Below Water.
