About the International Green Warrior Olympiad for Class 7

By Class 7, most students already know that saving water and switching off lights matter. For Class 7, the International Green Warrior Olympiad (IGWO) asks the next question: why do these actions work? It invites twelve-year-olds to look at the systems behind everyday choices, such as how a water treatment plant makes river water safe to drink, how the carbon cycle moves carbon between the air, land and oceans, and how a solar panel or a wind turbine turns natural energy into electricity.

The exam draws on eight themes linked to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Water, energy and climate sit alongside Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, life in the oceans and on land, and Food Security and Agriculture. At this stage, each theme is studied in more depth than in the junior classes, moving from simple habits to real causes and effects.

Climate is a good example. Class 7 learners explore the difference between weather and climate, explain the greenhouse effect and see how human activity disturbs the carbon cycle. In the energy section, they compare fossil fuels with renewable sources and weigh up the advantages and challenges of each. Exam Highlights for Class 7 International Green Warrior Olympiad (IGWO)

With a single level and a one-hour paper, the Class 7 IGWO is a focused and rewarding way to explore sustainability beyond the textbook.

The IGWO is open to every Class 7 student, whatever their school or country. You can sign up on your own, or your school can register you.

You take the exam at home on a laptop, desktop or tablet with a screen larger than 11.5 inches and a webcam, as the test is webcam-monitored. Windows devices must be on Windows 8 or above, though a Mac or an iPad is equally welcome. Phones cannot be used. Use the latest Google Chrome (Edge or Firefox also work, but not Safari) and a stable internet connection.

Exam Fee

A good starting point for Class 7 is the official syllabus. Go through one theme at a time and, for each topic, try to explain the idea in your own words: how is wastewater treated, why does burning coal pollute air and water, and what makes a marine sanctuary useful? Short notes and simple diagrams of the water cycle, the carbon cycle and the greenhouse effect make revision quicker.

Link what you read to what you see. Look at the electricity bill at home, notice how waste is sorted in your area, or read a news report on a heatwave and work out which syllabus topic it connects to. Then solve the sample papers in a timed, one-hour sitting to get comfortable with the MCQ format.

International Green Warrior Olympiad Registration

The Class 7 International Green Warrior Olympiad (IGWO) answer key dates are posted on the exam schedule page of the CREST website, and the key itself comes out on those dates. Only students who took the exam can view it.

Class 7 students can look up the IGWO cut-off online on the same website.

The last answer key date is the reference point for Class 7 International Green Warrior Olympiad (IGWO) results: they are generally announced within a month of it. With only one level, that makes them final for 2026-27.
