Class 10 Reasoning Olympiad Exam Syllabus

The Reasoning Olympiad syllabus for class 10 is the Class 9 list with one topic fewer: the puzzle topic is not listed for Class 10. Every other entry is the same, word for word and in the same order.

That leaves a balanced paper. Roughly half the list is about letters, numbers, codes, relationships and directions, and the other half is about figures: images, matrices, folding, dice, dots and building squares and triangles. Sequential Output Tracing, which joined the list in Class 9, stays.

Topics for Class 10

  • Series Completion
  • Analogy and Classification
  • Coding - Decoding
  • Blood Relations
  • Sequential Output Tracing
  • Direction Sense Test
  • Logical Venn Diagrams
  • Alphabet Test and Logical Sequence of Words
  • Alpha-Numeric Sequence Puzzle
  • Number, Ranking and Time Sequence Test
  • Mathematical Operations
  • Inserting the Missing Characters
  • Analytical Reasoning
  • Mirror Images and Water Images
  • Spotting Out The Embedded Figures
  • Figure Matrix
  • Paper Folding and Paper Cutting
  • Grouping of Identical Figures
  • Cubes and Dice
  • Dot Situation
  • Construction of Squares and Triangles
  • Figure Formation and Analysis

Every topic listed here can also turn up in the Achievers Section as a Higher Order Thinking Question.

Section 1 supplies 40 one-mark questions and the Achievers Section adds 10 more at two marks each, a total of 60 marks across the hour's 50 questions. Wrong answers carry no penalty, and there is only the one level. CREST calls its syllabus an outline, and a few questions may go a step beyond the listed topics.

If you took CRO in Class 9, almost nothing here will be new to you. Spend your time on accuracy instead: the same kinds of questions, answered faster and with fewer slips, are what move a score up the percentile bands.

With the list this stable, measure yourself early. Take one full sample paper in your first week, note the score, and repeat every week after that; the trend tells you more than any single attempt.

If school work is heavy this year, that stability helps: revise from your Class 9 notes and spend fresh hours only on the topics where your sample paper scores are lowest.

How to Prepare for Class 10 Reasoning Olympiad Exams?

If your timetable is full this year, keep Reasoning practice compact: four or five weeks, three short sessions a week, fitted around your school work.

Spend week 1 on verbal and number topics, including Blood Relations, Logical Venn Diagrams, Coding - Decoding, Mathematical Operations and Sequential Output Tracing. Move to the figure topics in week 2, including Figure Matrix, Paper Folding and Paper Cutting, Cubes and Dice, Dot Situation, and Construction of Squares and Triangles. In week 3, switch to mixed timed sets of 20 questions in 24 minutes, which matches the exam pace of 72 seconds a question.

Weeks 4 and 5 are for full papers from the class 10 Reasoning Olympiad sample papers, with a review of every wrong answer the same day. The CREST workbook for Class 10, on the Olympiad books page, fills any gaps.

Two habits help on the day. First, read the last line of a long question before the details, so you know what you are looking for. Second, if a figure question stalls you, choose an answer, flag it mentally and move on; CRO does not deduct marks. Take the free trial before the exam to check your setup.
