CREST International Drawing Olympiad (CIDO) exam is a global drawing exam that is participated in by students from over 6000+ schools and 60+ countries. The exam aims to enhance students' artistic skills related to topics related to Climate Action. The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) related to climate action is Goal 13: "Climate Action." a. Class 2 is the first year in which a child draws without help. Someone sitting with the child, a face that drifts partly out of the camera's view, another person accessing the test, or using a mobile or other electronic device can each lead to disqualification.

b. Children from every board, in India and other countries, can take part. Entry is through a school that has registered with CREST, or individually. CREST Olympiads began in 2019 and today count students from 6000+ schools in 60+ countries.

c. At home, the drawing is done in front of the webcam of a laptop or desktop or tablet with a display over 11.5 inches. Use a reliable internet connection and the latest version of Google Chrome, though Edge or Firefox also work and Safari does not; the system should run Windows 8 or above, and mobiles cannot be used.

d. One drawing in one level makes up the CREST International Drawing Olympiad for class 2, and that sheet settles both the ranks and the percentile awards.

1. Climate, drawn by a child. The Class 2 topics come from UN SDG 13 - Climate Action: a polar bear that needs protecting, a picture of weather change, and Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Big ideas become something a young child can actually draw and talk about.

2. Four posters to try. Save Forest, Water Pollution, Climate Heroes and Stop Climate Change are all posters. Each asks for a picture with a message and a short title, practice for the 10 marks of Title/Caption.

3. Ranks begin. Class 2 is where the International Drawing Olympiad starts ranking children and awarding percentile-based medals, so the result shows how a drawing compares with others in the class.

Climate is the theme of the International Drawing Olympiad syllabus for Class 2. All eight topics fall under UN SDG 13 - Climate Action.

Goal 13 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals is about the urgent need to act against climate change and its effects. CREST's own description of climate action covers cutting greenhouse gas emissions, building resilience to the effects of a changing climate and living in more sustainable ways. Each Class 2 topic picks one small, drawable piece of that idea.

SDG 13 appears for the first time in Class 2. Posters also take a bigger share: Class 1 had one, and Class 2 has four. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle is a single topic, so plan one picture that shows all three ideas.

Several titles hide a pairing to show. Weather Change suggests a before and after. Protecting Polar Bear needs the bear and whoever or whatever is keeping it safe. Save Fuel Save Earth links an everyday habit with the whole planet. On the posters, the words of the title (Save Forest, Water Pollution, Climate Heroes, Stop Climate Change) already give your child a ready-made slogan to build on.

Exam day means a single drawing within 60 minutes, scored out of 100, and the drawing is not followed by any second round.

Of the 100 marks, Neatness and Composition carries 30 (layout, balance, overall impact, line quality, colouring and shading, detailing and craftsmanship) and Originality/Creativity 20. Theme Adherence and Quality of Scan are worth 15 each, and Title/Caption and Message Conveyed 10 each. On a poster topic, the message and the title together are worth 20 of those marks.

Lay out the kit the evening before: an HB pencil, a sharpener and an eraser, a drawing board, and colours as needed. Crayons, pencil colours, oil pastels and pastel colours with a brush are all fine, on a white A4 drawing sheet that measures 210 mm by 297 mm.

Draw a 1 cm border before you start, and keep the whole picture inside it. Your child's name, CREST ID and class go outside the border at the bottom left.

Use a flat, clean surface, and keep pencil work sharp, without stray marks or broken lines. Roughly every 7-10 minutes, your child must show the drawing to the camera so the committee can track it, and not doing so may lead to disqualification. Nobody can do this for a Class 2 child, so rehearse it at home.

When the drawing is done, photograph it on a plain background (only the drawing, in high resolution) or scan it, with no grey shades or scanner marks. Adobe Scan or Microsoft Office Scan can help. The upload must be a .jpg, .jpeg or .png under 10 MB, and it has to be done within 5 minutes of submitting the exam; a missed deadline may mean disqualification.

The exam fee is INR 275 for students studying and enrolling from India. For students studying and residing outside of India, the fee is USD 15.

Three short practice sessions a week over a month cover the Class 2 list well. As nobody may sit beside your child on exam day, let them run each session while you watch.

Begin with the animal and weather topics: Protecting Polar Bear (ice, water and a mother bear) and Weather Change (one sunny half and one stormy half is an easy idea to compose). Then try Save Fuel Save Earth and Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, where a bin, a bottle and a planted pot can sit side by side.

Spend the last two weeks on the four posters. For each one, your child picks a slogan of no more than 6 words, writes it inside the border, and draws one strong picture to go with it, for example a child hugging a tree for Save Forest.

Next, pick a topic from the Class 2 International Drawing Olympiad sample papers and give it a full, timed hour. A useful rhythm is 15 minutes of pencil, 30 of colour and 15 for the title, details and a last check, with the sheet shown to the webcam along the way.

Last comes the free trial, set up just as the main exam is. Your child draws, uploads and receives feedback on the drawing.

Roughly a month passes between the final answer key date and the class 2 International Drawing Olympiad results appearing on the dashboard. Your registered details get you in, and the score is under performance.

Class 2 opens the ranked part of CIDO. Marks decide the order; a tie on marks goes to the quicker finisher, and if that is level too, to the child born later. Because exams run on different days and sessions, final ranks are normalised. Each drawing also gets a zonal rank, in one of five zones named East, West, North, South and International.

First, second and third place worldwide each bring an Achiever's Trophy. A gold medal comes with any of three results: a 96th-percentile finish or better, a drawing placed among the ten highest in its zone, or being one of the three strongest drawings among school-registered entrants from a school with more than 25 in the class. Silver goes to drawings whose percentile falls from 93 up to 96, and bronze to those from 90 up to 93. Beyond the medals, drawings ranked in the top quarter bring a Merit Certificate, and drawings ranked from 25% to 50% are recognised with the Honourable Mention, issued digitally.
