Start at least ten weeks out. The Class 9 topics overlap heavily with your school Science, so line up your Olympiad plan with your school timetable instead of running two separate schedules.
The physics topics (Motion, Force and Laws of Motion, Gravitation, Work and Energy, Sound) need numerical practice. Work out equations of motion, weight and work done by hand, since no calculator is allowed. In chemistry, make a table of atomic numbers, valencies and electron arrangements for Structure of Atom and Atoms and Molecules, and revise separation methods for Is Matter Around Us Pure. For biology, draw plant and animal cells and the tissue types until you can label them quickly.
One student topped CSO internationally in Class 9 (2020-21). His profile in the Hall of Fame describes how he studied: 10 hours a day, with screen time kept to 30 minutes a day. You don't need those hours to do well, but cutting screen time while you prepare is a habit anyone can borrow.
For mock tests beyond the sample papers, Olympiad Success, CREST's official preparation partner, has a Science Olympiad mock test series for Class 9, and its one-to-one online classes help if a chapter is giving you trouble.
Use the class 9 Science Olympiad sample papers for timed practice at 72 seconds per question, and take the free trial first to learn the screen.
Before the exam, look at which Achievers questions slowed you down in the sample papers. They carry 2 marks each, so a couple of extra minutes there can be worth more than rushing through them.
