The CREST International Spell Bee (Winter) is India's first online spelling test conducted for Class Senior KG. Every year, this Bee competition for junior learners is held to evaluate their spelling skills. b. Schools and families can both register. Your child's school can enter its students as a group, or, if the school is not registered with CREST, you can sign your child up yourself on the website.

c. Senior KG children are helped by a parent or teacher during the exam. Sit with your child, help them understand what a question is asking, and then let them choose the answer by themselves.

d. There is no exam centre. Your child sits the paper in your own home, using a laptop, desktop or tablet that has a webcam and a screen bigger than 11.5 inches. A Mac or an iPad is fine, and a Windows device needs Windows 8 or newer. Mobiles are off the list of allowed devices. CREST asks for a stable internet connection and the latest version of Google Chrome, with Edge or Firefox as alternatives; Safari is not supported.

e. Spell Bee Winter is a one-paper event. The Senior KG Level 1 paper is the whole competition, with nothing further to qualify for.

f. The fee is Rs. 275 per subject in India and USD 15 for families abroad, and it covers two online practice tests that your child may take if you wish.

1. Small words a child already knows. The Senior KG list sticks to short, everyday words such as ball, cake, game, home, room, shop and song, so a lot of the practice can happen in normal conversation.

2. Sound and pictures as well as letters. Even the Senior KG paper has Sound Check questions on pronunciation and Pictospell questions built around pictures, which gives a young child more than one way into a word.

3. Medals without ranking. Senior KG results carry no rank. The award is score-based: a Star Medal and a Merit Certificate for 60% or more, plus a digital participation certificate for everyone who sits the paper.

4. Room for the little ones. A published Senior KG review thanks CREST for letting Senior KG children take part, and says the topics are useful for regular class work too.

1. Spell Bee Individual registrations by students are accepted.

2. Students who have not done registration through the school will have to take exams from home. The individual participating should have a webcam and a good internet connection. Use a laptop, desktop or tablet with a screen larger than 11.5 inches: a Windows computer or tablet running Windows 8 or above, a Mac, or an iPad. Phones cannot be used. Use the latest version of Google Chrome (Edge or Firefox also work); the exam cannot be taken on the Safari browser. The exam is monitored through a webcam.

The Spell Bee Winter syllabus for Senior KG is one word list, which CREST calls Section 1: Spell Bee Words for Class Senior KG. Roughly 70% to 80% of the questions are based on these words. The other 20% to 30% may use words that are not on the list.

All spellings follow British English. The Oxford Learner's Dictionary is the main reference for both spelling and meaning, and if a word cannot be found there, it counts as non-existent for the test.

Senior KG is the only CSBW class with a 45-minute paper; every other class gets an hour. In that time your child answers 25 questions worth one mark each, so the paper is out of 25. The marking scheme divides them into six Winter formats:

• Word Champ (word knowledge): 4 questions
• Spell Spies (spelling skills): 6
• Sound Check (pronunciation): 4
• Spellacadabra (writing correct words): 4
• Jumble Tumble (meaningful words from jumbled letters): 2
• Pictospell (study the image and write the answer): 5

There is no deduction for a wrong answer. This single paper is the entire Senior KG Spell Bee for the year.

The exam fee for Senior KG students is INR 275 for enrollment from India. For students studying and residing outside of India, the fee is USD 15.

For a Senior KG child, a few minutes of word play several times a week is plenty. Keep it light, stop while it is still fun, and come back to it another day.

The Senior KG list is short enough to cover letter by letter. On a walk or at dinner, pick a word your child can see or touch, such as ball, cake or shop, say it slowly, and ask what sound it starts with and how it is spelt. Little words like as, at, if and is deserve a quick daily round too. The CREST word pages for cake and home have a simple meaning and usage examples to read aloud together.

Each Winter format can become a game. Write the letters of song on cards and shuffle them for Jumble Tumble. Draw a picture of a boy, a ball or a key and let your child write the word under it, the way Pictospell works. For Sound Check, take turns saying list words aloud and clapping along with each sound.

Once the word games feel easy, open the Senior KG Spell Bee sample papers and work through one side by side. Read each question out, let your child answer, and stop after a few at first. Later, try a whole sample paper; with 45 minutes for 25 questions, each one gets about 1 minute 48 seconds.

A week or so before the exam, open the free trial test, a replica of the real exam, so the webcam screen feels normal. CREST's Spell Bee (Winter) workbooks start from Class 1, so for now the list and the sample papers are your main material. Since a wrong answer costs nothing, encourage a guess rather than a blank.

The cut-off for CREST Spell Bee Winter is 60% for class Senior KG students. The Cut-off and results will be available online at the CREST Olympiads website. There will be a separate Spell Bee cut-off for each class.

The Spell Bee answer key contains correct answers to all of the exam questions. Students can estimate their scores in the CREST International Spell Bee Winter (CSBW) Olympiad exam. Students can access the CREST Spell Bee answer keys by logging in with their credentials & going to the dashboard section.

Once the last answer key date has passed, allow up to a month for the Senior KG Spelling Bee competition results. They show up under Performance when you log in with your registration details.

Nobody in Senior KG is ranked. According to CREST's cut-off page, little children are kept free of ranks so that the exam is no burden for them; it is there to give them exposure to the competitive exams they will meet later.

Your child's award depends only on the score. Getting 60% or more earns a Star Medal plus a Merit Certificate, delivered to the school or home address on the registration form, and simply taking part earns a digital participation certificate.

Spell Bee Winter awards are based on Level 1 alone, so there is no further round after this paper. From Class 1 the exam becomes a one-hour paper with 40 questions.

The students are appreciated for their performance, which motivates them to keep achieving again and again. Since Grade Senior KG students are too young, the exam is teacher or parent-assisted, and there is no ranking given. However, students scoring 60% and above are awarded a Star Medal and Merit Certificate, and every other participant receives a digital participation certificate.
