    Definition of Tenses

    Tenses in the English language indicates the time when an action or an event occurs. They give context to the sequence of actions in a sentence.

    Types of Tenses

    1. Past Tense

    We use past tense to describe events or actions that have already happened in the past. For example: Yesterday, I was at the party.

    2. Present Tense

    We use present tense to describe events or actions that are taking place right now or as true.

    For example: Nik plays guitar in this band.

    3. Future Tense

    We use future tense to tell about actions that will happen in the future.

    For example: My exams will start from next week.

    Uses of Tenses

    Is

    'Is' is used in the present tense with singular subjects.

    For example: Oscar is playing football.

    Are

    'Are' is used in the present tense with plural subjects.

    For example: They are going to watch a movie.

    Was

    'Was' is used in the past tense with singular subjects.

    For example: It was raining yesterday.

    Were

    'Were' is used in the past tense with plural subjects.

    For example: They were at the mall yesterday.

    Common mistakes with Tenses:

    Students often use wrong tenses in sentences. For example they may write 'It is hot yesterday' but the correct sentence is 'It was hot yesterday'
