    Person

    1. There are so many people around us and all of them have names.
    2. For example: father, mother, teacher, student, etc.

    Noun - Person

    Place 

    1. There are many places around us that we visit. All of them have names.
    2. For example: parks, schools, hospitals, malls, etc.

    Animals

    1. Animals that we see around us have names.
    2. For example: cat, dog, cow, goat, etc.

    1. Things that we use also have names.
    2. For example: book, toy, bag, bottle, etc.

    Using Nouns or Naming Words in a Sentence

    Let us identify nouns in sentences:

    1. Father is driving a car.

    In this sentence:

    1. Father is the name of a person.
    2. Car is the name of a thing.
    3. Noun - Man driving a car

    2. The dog is running at the beach.

    In this sentence:

    1. Dog is the name of an animal.
    2. Beach is the name of a place.
    3. Noun - Dog running at the beach

    Types of Nouns

    There are three types of Nouns:

    1. Common Noun

    1. Common noun is a general name for a person, place, animal or thing.
    2. First letter of a common noun is not written in capital letters.
    3. For example: city, teacher, kids, students, etc.

    Examples of Common Nouns

    Look at the following pictures:

    → This is a doctor.

    Noun - Doctor

    → This is a cat.

    Noun - Cat

    All of the above pictures like doctor and cat have a general name. Therefore, they are common nouns.

    2. Proper Noun

    1. Proper noun is a specific or unique name of a person, place, animal or thing.
    2. First letter of a proper noun is always written in capital letters.
    3. For example: Stacy, William, Robert, Australia, etc.

    Examples of Proper Nouns

    Look at the following pictures:

    → This is Lucy.

    Noun - A girl

    → This is Milo.

    Noun - cat

    All of the above pictures have a unique name. Therefore, they are proper nouns.

    3. Collective Noun

    1. Collective nouns are names given to a group of people, animals, places or things.
    2. For example: herd of cows, pack of chips, stack of books, etc.

    Examples of Collective Nouns

    Look at the following pictures:

    → A group of friends.

    Noun - group pf friends

    → A swarm of bees.

    Noun - swarm of bees

    All of the above pictures are groups of people and animals. Therefore, they are collective nouns.
