How is the Class 5 book different from Class 4?

The CMMO syllabus starts afresh in Class 5, with Integers and Comparing Quantities among the new headings, and the book follows the new list. The free Knowing our Numbers chapter holds 100 multiple-choice questions written as quick puzzles: double 245 and add 10; I am a number that gives 17 when you subtract 15 and divide by 5; how much change from a $50 note for a $45 book; which number times 3 gives 1,002,003. Large numbers appear too, such as the number name for 234,567.

The last two sections are a CREST previous year paper, to be tried in one hour, and the answer key.

How does it prepare your child for the CMMO?

From Class 5 the paper has 100 questions in 60 minutes, which is 36 seconds each. The chapter questions are short enough to answer in the head once the shortcut is known, and that is the skill being tested. Work in blocks of 25 questions with a 15-minute timer, which matches exam pace.
