What does the Mental Maths book for Class 2 cover?

The CMMO topic list for Class 2 is the same as for Class 1, so the chapter names match too. What changes is the difficulty. In the free Number and Number Names chapter there are 100 four-option questions: finding the digit in the tens place, forward counting from 15, working out 3 tens more than a number, naming the successor of 49 and spotting which number breaks a skip-counting series. Several questions show an abacus, such as one asking for the number that is 32 less than the one on it.

The book closes with a CREST previous year paper, meant to be attempted in one hour, and an answer key.

Why use it to prepare for the CREST Mental Maths Olympiad (CMMO)?

From Class 2 children answer the paper on their own, with 60 questions in 60 minutes. Practising from the book builds speed with numbers below 100 and confidence in reading a question without help. A good routine is a short set each day: your child reads the question, answers in the head, then checks against the key. Note the questions that took longest and come back to them at the weekend.
