Action Words for Class 2

Action words, also known as verbs, are words that describe an action or a state of being. Doing words are called verbs.

Look at the following examples:

• Kids are running in the playground.
• The rabbit can jump very high.
• The cat likes to sleep in a cosy bed.
• Fish can swim in the water.

All the above-mentioned words such as running, jump, eat, sleep and swim show an action happening. Those are called action words.

Why Action Words are Important?

• Action words help in building vocabulary.
• It helps us to use a variety of words that describe different actions and activities. For example, laughing is different from smiling. Both smile and laugh are verbs but have different meanings.
• It helps to express actions and activities.
• It allows students to convey their thoughts and ideas more clearly.

Examples of Action Words

1. She likes to run in the park every evening.
Here, "run" is an action word because it describes physical activity.

2. The bunny can jump very high.
Here, "jump" is an action word that indicates the movement of leaving the ground.

3. We will swim in the pool during the summer.
Here, "swim" is an action word used to describe the activity of moving through water.

4. They love to dance at birthday parties.
Here, “dance" is an action word that refers to moving rhythmically to music.

5. He likes to read books before bedtime.
Here, “read" is an action word denoting the activity of reading.

6. The birds sing sweetly in the morning.
Here, “sing" is an action word used to describe the melodious sounds produced by birds, especially in the morning.

7. She will eat her lunch in the cafeteria.
Here, "eat" is an action word indicating the process of taking food into the mouth.

8. After playing, the little kid will sleep for a while.
Here, "sleep" is an action word referring to the state of rest.
