  • Action words, also known as verbs, are words that describe an action or a state of being. Doing words are called verbs.

    Look at the following examples:

    • The rabbit can jump very high.
    • The cat likes to sleep in a cosy bed.
    • Fish can swim in the water.

    All the above-mentioned words such as running, jump, eat, sleep and swim show an action happening. Those are called action words.

    • It helps us to use a variety of words that describe different actions and activities. For example, laughing is different from smiling. Both smile and laugh are verbs but have different meanings.
