    What are Prepositions?

    A preposition is used to show the relationship between two things in a sentence. It gives us more information about the position, direction and timing of objects or actions in a sentence. Some common prepositions are "in," "on," "at," "beside," "between," and "with."

    Examples of Prepositions

    → Jack likes to sit beside his best friend in class.
    → The backyard is behind the house.
    → My father has a meeting at 12 pm.

    Uses of Different Prepositions in a Sentence

    Prepositions of Location

    Describe the location or position of something.

    Examples:

    → The lamp is on the table. (shows the lamp's location)
    → The notebook is under the bed. (shows the notebook's location)
    → The toy is in the box. ( shows the toy's location)
    → The kite is above the tree. (shows the kite's location)

    Prepositions of Time

    Used to show when something is happening.

    Examples: 

    → They have a class at 9 o'clock. ( shows the class timing)
    → We eat lunch in the afternoon. ( shows the lunch timing)
    → My brother goes to bed at night. ( shows the night time)
    → Steve's birthday is on November 9. ( shows the birth date of a person)
