Olympiad Exams in Mexico

i) National Biology Olympiad

The National Biology Olympiad is open to all High school students. The NBO is organized into 2 rounds. This event is structured as State competitions, National competitions and then training and selection of the participants who will represent a country in the International Biology Olympiad (IBO).

The 1st round is organized by the state universities and the 2nd round is organized by the National Biology Olympiad, i.e, Academia Mexicana de Ciencias A.C. (Mexican Academy of Sciences).

Exam structure

  1. The questions of round 1 are built according to the IBO syllabus and consist of 60 multiple-choice questions and 40 true/false questions.
  2. The questions of round 2 are built according to the IBO syllabus and consist of 40 multiple-choice questions and 60 true/false questions.
  3. For the 2nd round, the theory test and 4 practical tests are prepared by the organizing committee members including teachers and researchers from different universities and research institutes in Mexico City.

ii) Mexican Mathematical Olympiad (OMM)

The Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad (APMO) started in 1989. Participants must not be officially enrolled in a university (or equivalent post-secondary institution) and they must be under the age of 20.

The main aim of APMO is to discover, encourage and challenge gifted students in Mathematics in all countries of the Pacific.

The APMO competition consists of a 4-hour test consisting of 5 questions of varying difficulty and each question has a maximum score of 7 points.

A Certificate of Award, Honourable Mention, or Representation will be given to each APMO contestant.
