Class 5 is where the CREST Mental Maths Olympiad (CMMO) syllabus changes most. The study material below follows the eight new official units, from Knowing Our Numbers to Comparing Quantities, and each link opens a free CREST topic page.

What's new in Class 5

None of the Class 4 unit names carries over. The official Class 5 syllabus has eight units: Knowing our numbers, Integers, Fractions and Decimals, Playing with Numbers, Understanding Elementary Shapes, Mensuration, Data Handling and Symmetry, and Comparing Quantities. The topics that are new for CMMO include:

• BODMAS, estimation and the system of numeration
• integers on the number line and decimals with their place values
• prime and composite numbers, divisibility rules, prime factorisation, H.C.F. and L.C.M.
• perimeter and area, pictographs, bar and line graphs, and symmetry
• percentage, profit and loss, ratio, average, ages, and speed, time and distance

Class 5 paper at a glance

The paper grows to 100 questions in 60 minutes for 120 marks: 80 Basique questions at 1 mark and 20 Avance questions at 2 marks, roughly 36 seconds a question. The student takes it alone.
