Frequently Asked Questions

What is the CEO cut-off?

The lowest score, as a percentage, that earned each award in a class in a given year. Cut-offs are set class by class after each exam, so they change from year to year; this page has them from 2019-20 to 2025-26.

How do I qualify for CEO Level 2?

Students qualify if they are in the top 55.56% of candidates in their class in Level 1, or among the top 3 students (registered through school) from a school with more than 25 students in that class taking the exam. In addition, every student of Nursery to Class 1 who scores 60% or more in Level 1 qualifies.

How are CEO ranks decided when marks are tied?

Ranks follow the Level 2 marks. If two students have the same marks, the higher Level 1 score ranks higher, then the student who finished the test in less time, then the younger student by date of birth. Students who are still tied share the rank. Ranks are normalised across exam sessions, since each session has its own paper.

Do Nursery to Class 1 students get ranks in CEO?

No. There are no ranks for the youngest classes, to keep the exam free of pressure. Students who score 60% or more in the Level 2 exam get a Star Medal and a certificate.

How can my child aim for the CEO medal cut-off?

Look up the medal cut-off for your class in the table above and aim to score above it in practice tests. Practise with the CEO sample papers and previous year papers, which follow the same pattern as the exam. See the full cut-off and ranking rules.
