What does stem mean?

Meaning: Stem means the thin, upright part of a plant that holds up the leaves and flowers and carries water up from the roots.

How do you spell stem?

Syllables: stem

Tricky part: The vowel is a short e, as in leg and pen. Said quickly it can sound like another vowel, so listen for the e.

Watch out for: stemme, steme

Memory tip: Stem has the same short e as leg. Think of the stem as the plant's leg.
