ii. (3/4) - (1/2)
iii. (2/3) x (4/5)
iv. (2/3) ÷ (1/2)

a) i.17/12, ii. 1/4, iii. 8/15, iv. 4/3

d) i. 17/12, ii. 1/8, iii. 7/15, iv. 4/3

Answer: a) i.17/12, ii. 1/4, iii. 8/15, iv. 4/3

Explanation: i. (2/3) + (3/4)

LCM of (3, 4) is 12
= (2 x 4 + 3 x 3) / 12
= (8 + 9)/12
= 17/12

ii. (3/4) - (1/2)

LCM of (4, 2) is 4
= (3 x 1 - 1 x 2) / 4
= (3 - 2) / 4
= 1/4

iii. (2/3) x (4/5)
= (2 x 4) / (3 x 5)
= 8/15

iv. (2/3) ÷ (1/2)
= 2/3 x 2/1(Reciprocal of 1/2)
= (2 x 2) / (3 x 1)
= 4/3

2. Compare the fractions: 2/5 __ 3/5

a) >
b) <
c) =
d) ≤

Time taken to paint a chair = 1/3 hour
Total time taken = 1/2 hour + 1/3 hour

1/2 + 1/3
L.C.M. of 2, 3 is 6.
= (1 x 3 + 1 x 2) / 6 = (3 + 2) / 6
= 5/6 hours

a) 3/10
b) 2/5
c) 1/7
d) 1/4

Answer: a) 3/10

Explanation: Fraction of girls studying in school = 1/2
Fraction of girls studying in lower classes = 3/5 of 1/2
= 3/5 × 1/2
= (3 × 1) / (5 × 2)
= 3/10

Therefore, 3/10 of girls study in lower classes.
